A Leonotis fam trip is an adventure and exposé into northern Tanzania, off the beaten track. day 1 - Arrive in Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your driver and transferred to Siringit Villa. Settle in, relax and enjoy some well-deserved rest after your journey before the adventure and excitement of your Tanzanian adventure truly begins. Overnight Siringit Villa.
day 2 - Explore Arusha
Today, enjoy a tour around Arusha with several site visits along the way, followed by a kit check and briefing ahead of the real adventure beginning tomorrow. This evening, Ake and Nangini, the directors, warmly invite you to their home for a relaxed BBQ dinner. Overnight at Siringit Villa.
Day 3 - Cycling with elephants
West Kilimanjaro: "freedom to roam" is the slogan of this WMA and roam we will. Some of the largest Tuskers left in Africa, amazing biking, hiking, game drives off road. Overnight at Kambi Ya Tembo.
day 4 - KILIMANJARO biking or hiking
The Shira plateau: this is how to enjoy Kilimanjaro for a much shorter time, choose a bike ride or trek as you see fit, and then we head towards Arusha National Park. Overnight Koroi Forest Camp and site visit at Africa Amini.
Day 5 - Empakai crater
Set on the rim of Empakai crater with views to the crater lake below. Empakai Camp is a serene location, far from the madding crowd. An off the beaten track option for the Ngorongoro highlands. Overnight Empakai Camp.
day 6 - Leonotis camp
A truly special location… Right below Empakai crater and on route to Lake Natron in a grove of magical Acacia trees. This camp, accessible only by foot, is mid way on The Great Rift Valley Trek and part of an amazing journey and conservation effort to protect this endangered forest. Overnight Leonotis Camp.
Day 7 - Lake Natron camp
Lake Natron: our spiritual home, hub for adventure, start or end of our footsteps of mankind and Great Rift Valley programs. Come and see what a sustainable lodge looks like, meet our Maasai friends, maybe even have a massage! Overnight Lake Natron Camp.
day 8 - hominid footprints
Natron has a lot of options. Waterfalls, organic gardens, dawn walks, photogprahy, ancient tools, magic mud and so much more. Oh, and flamingoes and blood red algae! Overnight Lake Natron Camp.
day 9 - the great rift valley
The Great Rift Valley - visible from space but only 3 hours of trekking before exploring the Sale plains and Sanjan gorge. Time to get off the beaten track properly! Footsteps of Mankind Trek overnight Sanjan Camp.
day 10 - Fossils & cave paintings
Trekking to Piyaya - great routes, great stories, secret spots, fossils, cave paintings. It's a lot to take in. Overnight Piyaya Camp.
day 11 - Ride to olduvai
Edging towards the more regular tourist circuits we now learn how to connect all these programs, and link more new trips as well. Ndutu is close by, Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti. We now have the opportunity to mountain bike to Olduvai before connecting onto Ndutu. Overnight Ndutu Safari Lodge.
day 12 - Home
After a truly unforgettable adventure exploring some of Tanzania’s most spectacular off-the-beaten-track destinations, it is time to begin the journey home. Today, transfer back to Arusha, reflecting on the incredible experiences, landscapes and memories made along the way.
